Karolína Plišková v Dominika Cibulková Head to Head
The pair have met four times before, and, surprisingly perhaps, it is the Slovak, Cibulková, who has the edge in their personal series, having won three times – at Wuhan in 2016, Eastbourne in 2016, and Kualu Lumpur back in 2014. However, Plišková won their last encounter which came in the semi-finals in Doha two years ago, although it took her three tight sets to win through.
Plišková, Enjoying a Solid 2019
Plišková has enjoyed a very good start to the year, which started with victory at the Brisbane International, her 12th WTA senior title in all. She then progressed all the way to the semi-final stage at the Australian Open, before she came up against the eventual winner of the tournament in Naomi Osaka, in three sets.
Last week she was forced to withdraw from the tournament in Doha due to a combination of fatigue and fever, but is now fully fit for this week, and is looking to build on a strong pre-season, and a new found ability to withstand setbacks, and to stop herself panicking when the pressure points mount.
Cibulková, Can She Shrug off the Rustiness?
The world number 26 has played very little so far this season, and perhaps that showed in her first round match against Spain’s Lara Arruabarrena on Monday, dropping the first set 7-5, before powering back to win 6-1, 6-2.
Plišková, of course, is at a different level altogether than the Spaniard, but Cibulková can draw on the fact that she has, historically at least, tended to get the better of Tuesday’s opponent when they meet.
Plišková v Cibulková Predictions & Tips
Given her current form and world ranking, Plišková will start the match as odds-on favourite. Cibulková knows she can beat her opponent, but she is short of form and match-practice, and whether she currently has the self-belief may be questioned.
You can watch & bet on Karolína Plišková v Dominika Cibulková on Tuesday, February 19. The match will be held from 4.15 pm BST.
