Stefanos Tsitsipas v Borna Coric Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two before this and Coric leads 3-1. In fact Coric’s only defeat came in Rome 2018 where he was forced to retire from the encounter because of injury.

Their last meeting came at the 2022 Vienna Open having played in the same season in Cincinnati too. Coric had won both.

Tsitsipas Strong after Losing Opening Set

Tsitsipas did not have the greatest of starts to this year’s United Cup when he lost the first set of his opening match against Grigor Dimitrov.

Since then, however, Tsitsipas has been strong enough to not just win the next four sets – and hence both matches – but also do that in some style. The Dimitrov needed a final set tie-breaker, before the Greek number one took David Goffin out.

He overcame Goffin 6-3, 6-2 to help Greece make it through to the City Finals where Tsitsipas will play his third match.

This will be his first real challenge for a couple of reasons. One, the stakes are obviously higher for both his team and him (more points on offer for this match). Secondly, Tsitsipas’ record against Coric suggests he will have to drastically change his game-plan against the Croat.

Coric Continues from Where He Left Off

Since returning to tennis after his injury issues, Coric has slowly found his rhythm. It has improved to the point he went on to shock a plethora of stars en route his title win at the Cincinnati Masters last year.

Coric, who won his first ever Masters title and his first tournament since 2018 in Cincinnati, has continued to impress in the new year.

He started off with a 7-5, 6-4 win in his first match against Francisco Cerundolo and then defeated Arthur Rinderknech in the second to help Croatia qualify for the second stage. And while Rinderknech did not make it easy for Coric, the Croat still prevailed 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2).

Against Tsitsipas, Coric has all the ingredients to test him out including the confidence of having beaten him three times in the past. He will look to make it four in four.

Tsitsipas v Coric Prediction and Tip

On paper, Tsitsipas is the favourite at 9/20 but we have our doubts about this. Expecting Coric to give it his best and make life very difficult for his opponent here.
