Fritz in Red Hot Form
Taylor Fritz was brilliant last year and he seems to have carried that form to 2023. His new season is off to a great start as he played a key role in taking America to the final in Sydney.
The World no. 9 won his singles and mixed doubles matches against the Czech Republic as USA won the tie 4-1. He then won his singles match against Germany as the Americans thrashed the Germans 5-0 to top Group C.
In his first singles on day 1 Fritz had beaten Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-4. Fritz saved both the break points that he faced in that match and broke the world no. 81 twice to win the rubber. He also paired with Jessica Pegula to beat the Czech pairing of Marie Bouzkova and Lehecka in straight sets.
In the last group tie, Fritz once again dominated his singles rubber and this time it came against a top player in Alexander Zverev.
Fritz faced just one break point against the German and he was equal to his task. In contrast he created six breaking opportunities, converting half of them.
The American won 96% points on the back of his first serve beating Zverev 6-1, 6-4.
The 25-year-old is coming off a 46-21 season, which saw him claim three titles. The titles included his first ATP 1000 title in Indian Wells. He also won the titles in Eastbourne and the Japan Open.
Can he inspire the Americans to the title in the inaugural mixed team tournament?

Norrie Wins Both Singles
Just like Fritz, Cameron Norrie too comes to the Sydney final with a perfect record from the Group stage.
Norrie won his opening singles rubber against Alex de Minaur as Great Britain edged the Aussies 3-2. He next scored his biggest win of the tournament, defeating Rafael Nadal and helping Great Britain beat Spain 4-1.
Having won both its ties, Britain topped Group D.
Norrie, who had never beaten Nadal before in their past four meetings, lost the first set to the world no. 2, but he fought back to beat the 22-time Grand Slam winner 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Norrie saved 5 of 6 break points and converted 2 of 11 to win in two hours and 45 minutes.
His first singles match against the Australians was a much easier affair. The lefty needed just an hour and 32 minutes to beat De Minaur 6-3, 6-3. He faced four break points against the Aussie and saved all of them. He also held nine break points in the match, converting three of them.
The 27-year-old went 49-26 in 2022. He played in four finals and won two of them in Delray Beach and Lyon.
Fritz v Norrie Prediction and Tip
It’s going to be a closely contested match with little to choose between the two. Fritz has dominated the rivalry recently and is 4-2 over the last two years and 3-2 from completed matches. He holds a slight edge going into this one.
