Rebeka Masarova v Anna Blinkova Head to Head

Masarova and Blinkova have never face off in a competitive match before this.

Qualifier Masarova Stuns Stephens

Sloane Stephens is a former Grand Slam winner but her form has tapered off since and the former world number three has fallen to 37th in the world right now. She was still a favourite coming into this opening round encounter against Spanish qualifier Masarova with bookmakers offering 1/2 for her win.

As it turned out, Masarova, who had won both her qualifiers in straight sets, sent Stephens packing 6-3, 7-6 (5) to proceed to the second round.

Having played her first Grand Slam match at the US Open in 2021 and won it in three tie-breakers, Masarova’s performance in 2022 seemed to be going places.

A quarterfinal appearance at Marbella and Bucharest sandwiched a shock runner-up showing at Bastad – all of which were WTA 125 events. As a result of that, she has risen to 130th in the world, just nine spots away from her career-best.

Can she now make it through to her maiden quarterfinal at a WTA 250 event?

Blinkova Stretched by Cocciaretto

Elisabetta Cocciaretto has climbed up to her career-best ranking of 64th in the world and coming into her first round match against Blinkova she was bit of a favourite. Bookmakers had her pegged at 4/5 to defeat her Russian opponent.

Blinkova, who has two WTA titles under her belt including one last year, had other ideas as she put up a fighting display and registered a three-set win over Cocciaretto in their opener.

The Russian won 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in a contest that lasted over two and a half hours and now sets up a match against a player who has been ranked better than 121st on the WTA charts.

The trouble for Blinkova, however, is her record on hardcourt surfaces isn’t the greatest. Can she put that behind her and make it to a rare quarterfinal of an outdoor hardcourt event?

Masarova v Blinkova Prediction and Tip

Blinkova starts a favourite and at 3/5 we are slightly inclined to go with her win. Might even see three sets in the encounter.
