Frances Tiafoe put USA in the final four of the United Cup after winning their blockbuster showdown of the Host City Finals against Great Britain in a comprehensive fashion.
With USA leading 2-1, following wins by Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula, Tiafoe prevented the tie from going into a decisive mixed doubles match. He defeated Dan Evans 3-6 7-5 6-3 in an entertaining bout at the Ken Rosewall Arena.
Evans had the energetic American on the ropes in the first set, and led with an early break in the second. But Tiafoe utilized his potent forehand and superior court coverage to move Evans around the court. He won the second set by breaking Evans three times and some serious inroads in the sixth game of the third set to race away with the win.
The USA would ultimately win the tie 4-1, with Pegula and Taylor Fritz winning a mixed doubles dead rubber.

Michalski Winless in Three
Daniel Michalski has played in three singles matches at the United Cup, but has not had a lot of joy thus far, losing quite heavily each time.
In his first outing, he lost to Timofey Skatov, 7-6 6-2 and that remains his best effort at this event. Results and performances only got worse from there but that was largely due to his inexperience in playing Top 100 players.
He went on to lose to Marc-Andrea Huesler and more recently to Lorenzo Musetti. Against the Italian, Michalski won only two games, but his teammates bailed him out as Swiatek and Hurkacz won a decisive mixed doubles match to book their last four spot.
It would be the biggest shock of the United Cup should the World No. 260 upstage Tiafoe, but needless to say, this will give him a lot of learning points for the 2023 season.
Tiafoe v Michalski Prediction and Tip
Michalski is a whopping 11/1 to win, which tells you Poland’s source of scoring points in this tie will rest with Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz. This should be a routine win in the books for the Americans.
