Veronika Kudermetova v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head

They met once at the Shenzhen Open in 2019, when Kudermetova came back from a set down to beat Begu.

Kudermetova Knocks Out Andreescu

Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova overcame a slow start before trouncing Canada’s Bianca Andreescu in the second round of the Adelaide international on Wednesday.

The World no. 9 was broken in her first two service games of the match as Andreescu raced to a 0-4 lead in the first set, but fortunes changed from that point on as the Russian found the winning touch. She didn’t lose another game in the match, winning 12 games in a row and scoring a 6-4, 6-0 victory in an hour and 20 minutes.

Kudermetova converted 6 of 15 break points in the match. She was extremely dominant in the second set, with the Canadian’s only major challenge coming in the final game of the match. Kudermetova squandered three match points at 40-0 but eventually managed to convert the fourth to seal the match.

Kudermetova is making a habit of going deep in season openers. She finished runner-up in Abu Dhabi in 2021 and was a finalist at Melbourne Summer Set 1 last year. She is two away from making the finals in 2023 as well.

The 25-year-old was also dominant in her first round match against Amanda Anisimova. In that match as well, Kudermetova won the last 10 games in a row to beat the American 6-3, 6-0.

She will look to stay dominant in her quarterfinal match on Friday.

Begu Breezes Past Ostapenko

World no. 34 Irina Camelia Begu was also dominant in her second round match against Jelena Ostapenko.

The Romanian needed just an hour and 14 minutes to dispatch the seventh seed 6-3, 6-0.

After conceding a break in the fourth game of the first set, Begu fell 1-3 behind, but she responded by winning the next five games to clinch the first set. She was on top of her game in the next set and dropped just six points in the set as she bageled the world no. 18.

Begu would be relieved that the match ended quickly after the two-and-a-half-hour affair against Shelby Rogers in the first round.

The Romanian had lost the opening set to Rogers before rallying to beat the American 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

The 32-year-old, who ended a five-year title drought on the tour in Palermo last year, will be looking to keep the momentum going in the quarterfinal.

Kudermetova v Begu Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova has been very impressive in the first two matches. She is the superior player in the quarterfinal matchup as well and should reach the semifinals without much trouble.
