Ysaline Bonaventure v Rebeka Masarova Head to Head

Masarova leads 1-0, last beating her opponent in the 2022 ITF Hamburg 6-4, 6-3.

Masarova Upsets Muchova

Rebeka Masarova, currently ranked World No. 130, carved an impressive win by beating the resurgent Czech Karolina Muchova 7-6(4), 7-6(2).

The straight-set affair lasted a little over two hours and saw the duo fight it out in an evenly-matched contest. There was only one break of serve on both sides. Masarova took the win owing to a superior service game, winning 88% of the points behind the first serve.

The 23-year-old Spaniard is now closer to making her WTA singles final debut. The two-time Junior Grand Slam finalist (title in the 2016 French Open, runner-up in the 2017 Australian Open) had a decent spell last year.

The right-handed player won the Valencia Challenger doubles and reached the final in Bastad Open singles, losing to Su-Jeong Jang in the final. She took two doubles titles and one singles trophy on the ITF circuit.

Here in Auckland, she began as a qualifier and beat the likes of Sara Errani, number two seed Sloane Stephens, and Anna Blinkova – all in straight sets – to reach the semis.

Bonaventure Stuns Fernandez

Ysaline Bonaventure prevailed in the battle of left-handers when she took on the Canadian youngster Leylah Fernandez in the quarterfinal.

The 28-year-old Belgian registered her first straight-set WTA win since the Transylvania Open last October; she beat Fernandez 6-4, 6-2 in just 70 minutes.

Her path to the semis wasn’t as unique as Masarova’s, but the fact remains that she has made it this far. In her first two matches, Bonaventure was tested by Rebecca Marino and Caty McNally, with each match going to three sets.

In the qualifiers too, she faced some resistance from Arantxa Rus (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) but did move past Elsa Jacquemot in straight sets.

Now ranked #95, Ysaline’s 2022 highlights include four ITF finals (3 runner-ups, 1 title) and a quarterfinal showing in the WTA Tallinn.

Bonaventure v Masarova Prediction and Tip

This match can go either way but Masarova seems to have the upper hand, going by her performance so far in Auckland.
