Alexander Bublik v David Goffin Head to Head

Goffin leads Bublik 1-0 in their head-to-head, winning their Round of 16 match at the Montpellier Open.

Bublik Fails to Inspire Kazakhstan at United Cup

Kazakhstan’s bid to write up an underdog story at the inaugural United Cup did not come to fruition. Bublik and co. lost both of their ties against Poland and Switzerland, finishing bottom of their group with a 1-9 match win record.

Bublik accounted for two singles losses, first against Stan Wawrinka and then against Hubert Hurkacz where he came close to pulling off an unlikely point.

Nevertheless, there were very few expectations for their 2023 campaign and a lot of valuable learning experiences, especially for their lower-ranked players.

Bublik who was their team captain will set sights on a productive United Cup campaign next year should Kazakhstan qualify. For now, though, his singles season will be up and running in Auckland making the three-hour trip from Brisbane.

Goffin Also Winless at the United Cup

It wasn’t only Bublik who struggled to showcase his best tennis at the United Cup, but David Goffin was uninspiring too, losing two singles matches and one mixed doubles as Belgium’s campaign ended on a whimper.

Like Kazakhstan, Belgium also finished bottom of their group, behind Greece and Bulgaria (losing both ties) and with a 3-7 match win record.

Goffin, for his part, was extremely rusty, playing his first match of the season, going down to Grigor Dimitrov 4-6 5-7, which also means Goffin has now won just two times in 10 meetings against the Bulgarian one-hander.

As for his second singles match, he was outclassed by Stefanos Tsitsipas, winning just five games in a straight sets defeat. The 32-year-old will make his second trip to New Zealand and the first since 2013.

Bublik v Goffin Prediction and Tip

Bublik’s level was slightly more impressive than Goffin’s at the United Cup. And if the inclement weather shifts play indoors, Bublik should be fancied to upset the Belgian.
