Noskova Upsets Jabeur

Linda Noskova made her top 100 debut last year; now, she is beating the top 10 players on the WTA Tour.

Starting as a qualifier in the Adelaide 500, she first moved past the seeded players like Anna Kalinskaya and Anastasia Potapova to reach the main draw.

In the opener, she stunned the third-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3. After registering her second top-10 career win, she knocked out Claire Liu with a routine 6-2, 6-2 win.

Next up was the former world number one Victoria Azarenka. In that three-hour, rally-heavy affair, Linda saved a match point in the final set to win 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-6(6).

The Czech youngster continued to impress – this time by beating World No. 2 Ons Jabeur 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in under two hours. In that match, Noskova produced 8 aces and saved an impressive 10 break points.

Not that her past pedigree matters at this point, but it is worth noting that she won the French Open Junior in 2021 and took home several trophies from ITF tournaments in 2022.

Sabalenka Looking Sharp

World No. 5 Aryna Sabalenka has done well to live up to her number two seed in Adelaide.

With a bye into round two, she moved past Liudmila Samsonova, Marketa Vondrousova, and Irina-Camelia Begu without dropping a set. In fact, it was only against Samsonova that the Belarusian was truly tested as she won the match 7-6(8), 7-6(3). The rest of the games went without a hitch.

Sabalenka has picked up right where she ended the 2022 season. Her last tournament was the WTA Finals, where she reached the final but lost to Carolina Garcia. En route, however, she did beat Iga Swiatek, Jabeur, and Jessica Pegula.

Aryna also was the runner-up in Stuttgart and Den Bosch and a semifinalist in New York, Rome, and Cincinnati.

Sabalenka v Noskova Prediction and Tip

Noskova, having made it this far, will certainly be confident of going the distance. Sabalenka may feel the heat a bit, seeing that her opponent is making a habit of beating big guns. Expect an entertaining match with several games in the offing.
