Danielle Collins v Karolina Pliskova Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these players with both having won one apiece. Collins won their first meeting at the Yarra Valley Classic in 2021 before losing to Pliskova in the Australian Open that very year.

Collins had made it to the Australian Open final last year but her start to this season’s competitions hasn’t been something to write home about.
The American was drawn to play Elena Rybakina in the first round at the Adelaide International 1 and while she scooped up the first set, the Kazakh proved to be too good for her. Collins lost 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
This comes on the back of a season in which Collins featured in only 11 WTA tournaments, with a quarterfinal at the Miami Open and fourth round at US Open being her best showing other than that Australian Open final appearance.
Rustiness looked like it was a concern in that opening match against Rybakina too, but it must be quickly added that Collins might have been a tad unlucky to be drawn up to play the Wimbledon champion that early in the tournament.
Unfortunately for her, Collins will now be facing a player who was ranked fourth till as recently as last season.

Pliskova Needs to Come Through the Qualifiers
She was ranked fourth in the world last season but a string of poor performances including the loss of points for having made the Wimbledon final in 2021 meant Pliskova ended the year at the 31st spot on the WTA Rankings.
And as a result of that and the kind of draw that we have in Adelaide, Pliskova was forced to come through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw.
Pliskova, who had fallen in the first round at this tournament last week to Jelena Ostapenko, needed to overcome Jule Niemeier and Shelby Rogers to make it through.
The good news for Pliskova is she looked sharp in those victories, dropping just seven games in each of those matches.
Collins, however, will be a different kettle of fish, and things could get rather challenging for the Czech. Can she rediscover her lost mojo against a player who herself is looking to come back hard following an early defeat last week?

Collins starts off a favourite in this and we will be backing her to win the tournament. She should win this in three though.
