David Goffin v Christopher Eubanks Head to Head

This will be the first time that they will meet on the tour. However, they met at the Phoenix Challenger last year, with Goffin winning the hard court contest in three sets.

Goffin Breezes Past Bublik

David Goffin got his Auckland Open campaign off to a quick start as he dispatched the fifth seed Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-4 in just an hour and 14 minutes.

Goffin held six break points in the match and he converted all of them. In contrast, Bublik had seven chances to break the Belgian, but he could convert just three of them.

The Kazakh, ranked no. 36th in the world, made plenty of errors on the day. He double faulted six times and made 23 unforced errors to just three made by Goffin.

This was the World no. 53’s first win of 2023. He represented Belgium in the United Cup last week, but lost both his singles matches in the group stage.

Goffin went down to Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets and couldn’t win a set against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov either.

The 32-year-old went 27-26 in 2022 and won his only title of the season in Morocco. It was his sixth career title from what was his 15th ATP final.

Eubanks Edges Out Humbert

Carrying his qualifying round form to the main draw, Christopher Eubanks edged out Ugo Humbert in the first round on Tuesday.

The loss ended Humbert’s three-year reign as Auckland champion. He was the last champion in 2020 before the tournament got cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to COVID.

None of the players could break the opponent’s serve in the contest, but Eubanks seemed better equipped to handle tiebreaker pressure as he won the two-hour long battle 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3).

In all Eubanks fended off six break points, while Humbert saved four of them.

Ranked no. 123rd in the world, the 26-year-old Eubanks made it to the main draw on the back of two solid comeback wins over top 100 players. He first rallied past no. 81 Dusan Lajovic in the first qualifying round and then bounced back after losing the first set against no. 82 Joao Sousa in the second qualifying round.

Can he keep the momentum going against Goffin?

Goffin v Eubanks Prediction and Tip

Eubanks is in top form at the moment but he is still inexperienced at this level and it will be a huge task for him to take down Goffin. The Belgian will be feeling good about his game after getting his first win of the season on Monday and will now hope to add another on Wednesday.

This could be a three-set contest, but Goffin is expected to use all his experience and end the American’s promising run.
