Diego Schwartzman v Jenson Brooksby Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two which came in Antwerp in 2021. Schwartzman had won that in straight sets, clinching it 6-4, 6-0.

Schwartzman Opens His 2023 Campaign

Schwartzman wasn’t a part of Argentina’s United Cup campaign and nor did he play in any of the other ATP tournaments which were held in the first week of the season at Adelaide or Pune.

Which is why he enters this tournament as a tune-up to the Australian Open which will begin next Monday.

And with a first round bye under his belt after starting out as the third seed behind Casper Ruud and Cameron Norrie, Schwartzman finally kick-starts his season with this round of 16 encounter against American player Brooksby.

The Argentine had a horrible finish to the previous season as he went seven matches without a victory since reaching the third round at the US Open. What would have bothered Schwartzman even more is some of those losses came at the hands of players ranked lower than him.

Can he start things off in a better frame of mind here?

Brooksby Stretched by Fognini

Fabio Fognini was ranked ninth in the world not too long ago and can prove to be a huge challenge even outside of clay on his day. This is exactly what happened in Brooksby’s opening round encounter.

The American needed to come back from being a set down to scrape through to a 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-3 win over Fognini.

After being on court for two hours and 16 minutes, Brooksby overcame two breaks of serves – one apiece in the opening and third set – to claim his second round spot.

In fact, Fognini was 2-0 up in the final set before the American found his rhythm again and clinched the victory.

Brooksby now faces another player whose record on clay is a lot better than on hardcourt surfaces. Can he make it two in two here?

Schwartzman v Brooksby Prediction and Tip

Brooksby starts off a favourite here because of how Schwartzman ended the previous season and the fact he is playing his first match in the new year. Expect the Argentine to be rusty but to put up a fight.
