Kvitova Sends Rybakina Packing

Elena Rybakina might be a Wimbledon winner but hasn’t had a lot going for her on courts since that tournament victory.

And Kvitova, despite going into her first match against Rybakina as a 13/10 underdog, did not have a lot of trouble exploiting those very issues that had plagued her opponent all these weeks.

Kvitova needed an hour and 27 minutes to get Rybakina, winning 6-3, 7-5 with her serve bailing her out of any trouble she might have thought she might face. This can be seen from the fact that Kvitova won 86% of her first serve points and 61% of the second serves, in turn facing not a single break-point in the entire encounter.

In turn, she also broke her opponent twice – once in each of the two sets – to move past her and seal her second round berth.

This was Kvitova’s third win in a row, following her back to back victories at the United Cup in the first week of the season. Can she now make it four in four?

Zheng Registers Comeback Win

Zheng’s current ranking of 30th in the world is a stark reminder she is no pushover and she has already shown what she is capable of in this short season.

For instance, in the first tournament she featured in in Adelaide last week, Zheng sent the former world number two, Anett Kontaveit out before going down fighting to Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 7-5.

A fighting win over Anastasia Potapova in the qualifiers sealed her main draw berth where Zheng overcame the loss of the first set against Shelby Rogers to win it in three.

In fact Zheng was a set and a break down in the second before mounting a fightback that saw her win 11 of the next 13 games and in turn, the encounter. Against the experience of Kvitova, that might not be the easiest thing to do but Zheng does have the tenacity to push her 16th-ranked opponent.

Kvitova v Zheng Prediction and Tip

Kvitova is a minor favourite here at 5/6 and despite the obvious closeness of the contest we will have to back her form here. She will be our pick to make it her fourth win of the season in a row.
