Danielle Collins v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 Miami Open and Kudermetova had won that one in straight sets.

An opening round loss at Adelaide International last week was followed by a tricky opening encounter against Karolina Pliskova this week for Collins.
Once Collins had overcome Pliskova, however, the confidence looked to be back for the American and she made it two in two by sending Jil Teichmann on her way in the second round.
Collins won 6-3, 7-6 (2) in an hour and 44 minutes to march in the quarterfinals as the previous Australian Open runner-up fine-tunes her performance for the first Grand Slam of the season.
Teichmann was broken twice in the first set but put up a fighting display in the second when she went 3-1 ahead. Collins then broke back twice and had five match-points she squandered in the 10th game before winning it in the tie-breaker.

Kudermetova Gets Alexandrova Walkover
It was expected to be a tight, all-Russian battle between Kudermetova and Ekaterina Alexandrova for a place in the quarterfinal.
Instead it turned out to be damp squib as Alexandrova opted out of the match because of fitness concerns and that allowed Kudermetova an entry into her second successive quarterfinal of the season.
Kudermetova, who had overcome a one set deficit in the first round against Victoria Azarenka before edging past her Belarusian opponent, had also registered successive wins in Adelaide last week.
There, she had sent Amanda Anisimova and Bianca Andreescu out in the first two rounds and was one of the hot-favourites to go all the way before 3/1 underdog Irina Begu stopped her right in her tracks.
Here she has a far tougher opponent facing her in the quarterfinals. Can Kudermetova go one better?

This has all the makings of a mouth-watering clash between two solid hardcourt players, both of whom have shown what they are capable of. Kudermetova holds a slight edge here though and we think she should come through in three sets.
