Cameron Norrie v Jenson Brooksby Head to Head

These players have faced off once before this and that match came at the 2022 Indian Wells Open. Norrie had won it in straight sets.

They were also scheduled to meet in Seoul last year but Brooksby had pulled out of that encounter because of an injury.

Norrie in Another Three-Setter

For the second match in a row, Britain’s Norrie was involved in a three-setter but came through in the end in two hours and six minutes.

After being stretched by Jiri Lehecka in his second round encounter, Norrie edged out Marcos Giron 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-2 to become the first player at the Auckland Open to seal his semifinal berth.

It should probably have never gone into the third set after Norrie romped through the first set but an early loss of serve meant that the world number 12 was playing catch-up in the set.

While Norrie broke back, he failed to double that effort in that set and in a close tie-breaker that followed, Giron managed to close it out.

Norrie came back strongly in the decider though as he broke Giron in the third game and then consolidated it with one more in the seventh. Can he march into the final here?

Brooksby Makes it 3-0 for 2023

Featuring in his first tournament for the season, Brooksby won his third successive match to reach the semifinal. He defeated Quentin Halys in a hard-fought last-eight encounter that needed him nearly two hours to get through.

Brooksby endured 13 aces and two breaks of serves before winning 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) against Halys who had a 77% first serve win percentage. In a fine game of margins, Brooksby first serve figures were no different while he won 55% of his second serves to his opponent’s 50%.

In fact Brooksby was down a break of serve twice in the first set but broke right back and pushed it into a tie-breaker which he won easily.

The second set saw excellent serving from both players, with neither facing a break-point. In the tie-breaker that followed, however, it was Brooksby who ran away with the encounter.

Can he now make it as tough for the world number 12?

Norrie v Brooksby Prediction and Tip

Norrie will find Brooksby’s serve tough to handle and the question is if he is unable to break it and the match drags on, will he want to expend too much on it given the impending Australian Open. Expecting a two-set finish here.
