Jessica Pegula v Jaqueline Cristian Head to Head

She did not have the brightest of starts at the United Cup when she lost to Petra Kvitova in the very first match that Pegula played but from that point onward, the American did not face too many difficulties.
It can be argued Pegula did not have some of the higher quality opponents that others might have faced in three of those four matches but in dismantling each of her next four opponents in the manner that she did, the world number three showed what she is capable of.
Pegula dropped just 17 games in her next four matches – that’s an average of two per set – as she helped USA win the inaugural edition of United Cup.
Other than wins over Laura Siegemund, Harriet Dart and Martina Trevisan, Pegula will take a lot of heart from her 6-2, 6-2 drubbing of the world number one Iga Swiatek in that tournament.
And while Cristian has been in the top 60 of the rankings before this, it looks extremely unlikely Pegula will have a lot of trouble here.

Cristian Struggling Since Making Maiden WTA Final
It was in November 2021 that Cristian made it to her first ever final in a WTA tournament. A year and a couple of months on, Cristian has struggled to gain traction as a result of fitness concerns which saw her miss out on six months of action last year.
Playing against Daria Kasatkina in Doha, Cristian failed to complete an overhead lob as she fell clutching her knee in February last year.
A surgery followed soon after and Cristian made her return to tennis at the US Open in August. Unfortunately for the Romanian, she has been unable to carry any of her old form forward.
Such have been her struggles that Cristian hasn’t won a single main draw encounter at the highest level which includes a qualifying loss in Auckland and a first round defeat at Hobart this season.
And she now takes on the world number three, making it doubly difficult for her to get the monkey off her back.
Pegula v Cristian Prediction and Tip
Cristian is a talented player and will have her chances but here, with no form behind her back and with Pegula in the kind of touch she is, we expect it to be an easy one for the American.
