Ons Jabeur v Tamara Zidansek Head to Head

This will be the second time these two face off at the highest level. Zidansek had won their previous encounter in 2019 in Rome.

Jabeur Losing Semifinalist at Adelaide

After starting off rather well at the Adelaide International in the first week of the season, Jabeur fell in the semifinal to the little-known Linda Noskova.

Ranked 265th in the world at the start of 2022 season, Noskova needed qualifiers to get to the main draw in South Australian last week but then beat Jabeur to storm into the final. Not the kind of defeat that would have made Jabeur too chuffed.

That being said, Jabeur did start off reasonably strongly against Sorana Cirstea and Marta Kostyuk, so the surprise factor associated with Noskova might have something to do with the loss.

What’s interesting to note is that while the world number two has been one of the more consistent players on tour, her record at the Australian Open hasn’t been the best.

Jabeur has made the fourth round here just once and add the fact she has never won a hardcourt competition, it would be a record she would definitely like to set straight.

Zidansek 0-2 in Main Draws This Year

It was only last year that Zidansek was ranked 22nd in the world, having hit that ranking in March 2022. A third round appearance at the Australian Open last season helped that cause as did a semifinal showing in Adelaide before that.

From that point onward, however, Zidansek has struggled to put together results in her favour. In fact, in the entire season following her Australian Open run, Zidansek won just nine main draw WTA matches.

As a result of that, the Slovenian player has fallen to 88th in the world and started off the season in a manner that underlines that descent.

She lost her opener at the Auckland Open to Lauren Davis and while Zidansek qualified for the Hobart International with a couple of wins, she fell to another defeat in the first round against Ysaline Bonaventure.

Things aren’t about to get any better against the world number two.

Jabeur v Zidansek Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is 1/8 to win this and 1/2 to do that in straight sets and we see her steamrolling her opponent given Zidansek’s troubles. The games market might be something to consider though.
