Iga Świątek v Jule Niemeier Head to Head
They have faced off once before and that also came in a Grand Slam tournament. Interestingly it was at the 2022 US Open where Niemeier took a set off Swiatek in the fourth round.

2022 Semifinalist Świątek Starts off with Injury Concerns
Swiatek was expected to defeat Jessica Pegula in their United Cup encounter and was later also expected to feature at the Adelaide International 2. Both things did not materialise for the world number.
In fact, Swiatek’s loss to Pegula, a result that not too many expected, was such a one-sided affair that it left the world number one in tears after the match. Pegula won that one 6-2, 6-2.
The withdrawal from WTA Adelaide could have far more serious question-marks though because there are concerns about her shoulder. Swiatek withdrew from that tournament because of a shoulder injury, leading to doubts over how fit she is coming into this year’s opening Grand Slam.
Injury aside, Swiatek does start off as a humongous favourite in this tournament given her brilliant run of form last season which saw her win 70 of the 80 matches she played in.
Can she start things off with a soothing win though?

Niemeier Yet to Open Her Account in 2023
For most part of the previous season, Niemeier struggled to crack the top 100 on the WTA Rankings.
A quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon would have gone a lot way in helping her break into the top 60 but for the non-allocation of points from that competition. That did one thing for Niemeier though – gave her the confidence for the rest of the 2022 season.
And that was on show as made it to the quarterfinal in Lausanne and then stormed into the fourth round of the US Open as well to help her close out the season ranked 65th in the world.
Unfortunately for Niemeier, she hasn’t been able to kick-start this year on a similar note. The German lost both her United Cup matches – falling to Marie Bouzkova and Madison Keys – and then failed to qualify for the Adelaide International as she lost to Karolina Pliskova.
Making it worse for Niemeier is the fact she is yet to win a set this year.
Świątek v Niemeier Prediction and Tip
Swiatek might be a tad cautious coming into this one and that’s where Niemeier could take an early advantage. Once the world number one finds her rhythm though, expect her to storm through to a win.
