Novak Djokovic v Roberto Carballes Baena Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 US Open and Djokovic had won that first round encounter in straight sets.

Djokovic Wins Adelaide International But Injury a Question-Mark
Djokovic and fitness go hand in had. Reams and reams of content has been written about how seriously Djokovic takes his fitness and even when facing injury concerns, he has come out all guns blazing and won matches out of nowhere.
So while there have been news reports that Djokovic might not be in the best of health with regards to his hamstring, one needs to take that with a pinch of salt.
A title winner at the Adelaide International last week, Djokovic was largely untested throughout that tournament but his problems looked to have surfaced during an exhibition practice match against Daniil Medvedev.
Djokovic had lost the first set to the Russian and pulled out of the rest of the encounter as a result of that injury. The 21-time Grand Slam winner claimed it was a precautionary decision and he should be fit, which is what we think as well.
Because this tournament this year means a lot to him – a lot more than usual – for two reasons.
One, a title win here ties him with Rafael Nadal for most Grand Slams won but more importantly it would be a nice end to a tale that started last year when Djokovic was unceremoniously sent packing from Australia over his decision to not take the Covid-19 vaccine.

Carballes Baena Coming off Second Round Exit in Pune
Carballes Baena kick-started his new year with an appearance at the Pune Open where he reached the second round.
Winning his opener against Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Carballes Baena then crashed out of the tournament with a three-set defeat at the hands of Marin Cilic, who was the top seed in that competition.
The Spaniard looked to have had a struggle on his hands when he fell to outside the top 100 in the ATP Rankings last May but since then has slowly clawed back to his current 75th.
This has been down to his performances on clay and on the Challenger circuit but it will be interesting to see how he does at the highest level. What one does know is his luck with draws cannot be called the best as he plays Djokovic for the second time in a Grand Slam opening round encounter.
Djokovic v Carballes Baena Prediction and Tip
Djokovic is 1/100 to win this, which tells you what bookmakers think of his injury too. Despite those hamstring problems, Djokovic should not have too many worries and could carve out a straight-set win here. Might see a bit of a fight from Carballes Baena in one of the sets.
