Stefanos Tsitsipas v Quentin Halys Head to Head

While these two players have never faced off at the highest level, they have played two matches on the Futures and Challenger circuit. Both times, in 2014 and 2018, it was Halys who won the match!

Tsitsipas 4-0 This Season

While Greece did not quite go the distance at the United Cup, their appearance in the semifinal was down to a sterling display of tennis by their number one players, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari.

Tsitsipas ended the tournament on the back of four wins and no losses. While three of them saw Tsitsipas getting tested it also brought to the fore, his fighting qualities.

The Greek number one overcame Grigor Dimitrov in his opener after being a set down before sending David Goffin out in straight sets. Borna Coric pushed him into a third set in the Host City Finals but Tsitsipas’ best win came against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in Greece’s final tie.

He won from being a set down, again displaying determination in the lead-up to the Australian Open. It’s this very thing that Tsitsipas will need if he wants to become a challenger to title here.

Halys Showing Great Improvement

By the time Halys takes to court for this opening round encounter, he would have broken into the top 60 of the ATP Rankings for the first time in his career.

Even coming into the previous week’s Auckland Open, he was ranked at a career-best of 64th and that was down to an opening round victory in Adelaide. What stood out there was even in his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the second round, Halys could hold his head high having pushed him into two tie-breakers.

Things improved even more in Auckland.

Halys defeated Alex Molcan and Ben Shelton in the first two rounds there before Jenson Brooksby got the better of him in the quarterfinals. And again, like was the case with Djokovic, even Brooksby found Halys’ serve hard to break.

While that might not be enough against Tsitsipas in a best-of-five encounter, he sure could put up a challenging fight.

Tsitsipas v Halys Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas starts off a 1/6 favourite here with bet365 offering 5/4 for a straight-set win. We could see a few games in this contest too with the games handicap of Halys at +7.5 being a good starting point.
