Bautista Agut Makes Short Work of Fokina

After needing three sets against unheralded Robin Haase in his second round win, all eyes were on Bautista Agut how he goes about his business against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. It was expected to be a tough battle with Bautista Agut narrowly making it through.

As it turned out, the all-Spanish battle went in favour of Bautista Agut alright but without too much of an issue for him.

He was on court for an hour and 24 minutes, overcoming Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-2 to march into the semifinal. What was so stellar about Bautista Agut’s performance was his serving which saw him lose just nine points in the entire match off it.

On the other hand, Davidovich Fokina was broken four times, twice in each of the two sets, making Bautista Agut’s life rather easy.

Bautista Agut will now hope to continue with this run as he aims to get closer to his career-best ranking of ninth in the world.

Kokkinakis Needs Another Three-Setter

For the third match in a row, Kokkinakis was pushed into three sets and for the third time he came through. In doing so he has now sealed his second successive semifinal berth at this tournament having won this title last year.

Kokkinakis was on court for two hours and 12 minutes before clinching a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-1 victory over the world number 28 Miomir Kecmanovic.

This followed a victory over fellow Aussie Alexei Popyrin and an upset win against Andrey Rublev in his first two rounds.

What was so special about Kokkinakis’ win was that despite dropping a set, his premier serving ensured he faced just two break-points in the entire encounter and saved them both. Against a player of the quality of Bautista Agut, he would like for something similar.

Bautista Agut v Kokkinakis Prediction and Tip

No surprises to see Bautista Agut start out as a favourite with odds of 8/11 for his win but those are quite short odds for a player ranked more than 80 places ahead of his opponent. What needs to be kept in mind is a few players opt to not be at their 100% intensity in a tune-up tournament before a Grand Slam, especially so close to it.
