Federico Coria v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the two 30 year olds.

Coria Makes Slow Start to the Season

Coria’s past includes an eight month ban from the sport for failing to report an illegal corrupt approach, but he recovered from that, and reached the final of the Swedish Open in 2021, when he was beaten by Casper Ruud.

2022 saw him reach an all-time career ranking and reach two Challenger finals, both on clay, winning in Milan and settling for the runners-up spot in Ecuador.

He has an indifferent record in Grand Slams, with his best showing coming in Paris in 2020 where he reached the third round.

Earlier that year he had been beaten in qualifying for the Australian Open, and his two subsequent visits ended in first round defeats.

His year began playing in the United Cup for Argentina, but he lost both his matches, losing to Borna Gojo of Croatia and Adrian Mannarino of France, both in straight sets.

He then failed to qualify for Auckland, only to get a reprieve as a Lucky Loser.

However, he lost in the first round  to Marcos Giron of the USA, despite winning the first set on a tie-break.

Fucsovics Already a Challenger Winner in 2023

Fucsovics won his one senior title back in 2018 on the clay of Geneva, although he is better known as a hard court player.

The Hungarian has a decent Grand Slam record, and was a Wimbledon quarter-finalist in 2021, and he has twice made the fourth round in Melbourne, in 2018 and 2020.

Last year saw his form fluctuate, and, at one stage he dropped out of the top 100, only for him to bounce back again.

However, Fucsovics finished the season strongly by winning a Challenger tour event in Slovakia.

And he began the New Year where he left off by winning another Challenger tour tournament in Canberra, his sixth at that level.

Fucsovics would have been disappointed to lose in the first round of qualifying for Adelaide, beaten by the Dutch veteran Robin Haase in straight sets.

Coria v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Based on his record in this event alone and the fact that he is the happier on hard courts, Fucsovics would already be the favourite going into this match.

But the fact that he has started 2023 much stronger than Coria just underlines his status.
