Veronika Kudermetova v Belinda Bencic Head to Head
This is a long-standing rivalry which has seen a total of eight matches played in the main draw of WTA events and one other in the qualifiers. Overall, Bencic leads 5-4 which includes a 2-1 scoreline in her favour from 2022.
Four of these nine matches have come on grass, which on outdoor hardcourt surfaces, it’s 2-1 in favour of Bencic.

Danielle Collins is the reigning Australian Open runner-up and had turned up well in this tournament so far. Which is also why there wasn’t much to choose between her and Kudermetova, with bookmakers offering 1/1 for a Collins win.
Those odds changed drastically when Kudermetova fell a set behind and then had to save five match-points on her own serve in the second set before she managed to get some sort of a toehold into the encounter.
Once she had levelled the match in a tie-breaker, there was no looking back for the Russian who broke Collins twice to clinch the match, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 in two hours and 49 minutes.
Kudermetova had earlier benefitted from Ekaterina Alexandrova’s withdrawal, but has already beaten Victoria Azarenka in this tournament.

Bencic Shocks Garcia
Technically it was Bencic who went into her quarterfinal against Caroline Garcia as a 7/10 favourite but playing against someone who is entering the season on the back of one of the greatest turnarounds (and a WTA Finals title to boot), it was never going to be easy.
Bencic did have to work hard in her quarterfinal but in the end, came through in an hour and 55 minutes as she won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to enter the last four.
After the two players had shared the first two sets, Bencic raced off to a 5-1 lead with two breaks of serves. Garcia pulled one of them back but there was no looking back after that as Bencic served it out to clinch the win.
This victory follows Bencic 1-1 record at the United Cup and wins over Garbine Muguruza and Anna Kalinskaya in the first two rounds here.
