The 2023 Australian Open promises to unearth a slew of talented players on the big stage. With the usual favorites Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal leading the men’s charge, the same cannot be of the women’s field which will once again be as unpredictable as ever.

Despite Iga Swiatek collecting two of the four Grand Slams on offer last year, the Pole has been beaten at the start of the year and could be vulnerable.
On that note, let us take a closer look at the top favorites, the players to watch, and dark horses in both the men’s and women’s sections for the 111th edition of the Australian Open.
Australian Open 2023 Betting Tips & Predictions
Men’s Singles: Favorites to Win the 2023 Australian Open
In the men’s side of things, Novak Djokovic is the red-hot favorite to win the 2023 Australian Open. He is 5/6 (with bet365) to win the tournament, almost as low as Nadal to win the French Open during his peak years.
Djokovic has a very good draw, playing Carballes Baena in the first round and potentially Hugo Dellien in the second. His first big test will likely come in the third round when he takes on Grigor Dimitrov.
But he’s only lost once in 10 matches against the Bulgarian. It is hard to see anyone stopping Djokovic in the first week, although doubts linger on the nature of his hamstring. But we are talking of a man who has won this tournament a record nine times and has not lost in a final here. Siding with Djokovic is a no-brainer.
Last year’s finalist Daniil Medvedev will be keen to overcome the disappointment of losing from two-sets-to-love up against Nadal last time out. Medvedev will generate plenty of interest at 6/1 (bet365). Outside Nadal and Djokovic, he is the one player you would hang your hat on.
Men’s Singles Winner Prediction: Novak Djokovic: 5/6 (bet365)
Men’s Singles Winner Dark Horse Prediction: Daniil Medvedev: 6/1 (bet365)
Men’s Singles: Players to Watch
Quite a few actually who could make some serious inroads. Taylor Fritz stands out. He lost to Novak Djokovic in that dramatic five-setter two years ago, when it appeared the Serb was going to retire due to an abdominal injury.
Fritz has since improved by leaps and bounds, winning his first Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells, and has entered the world’s top 10. Fritz is 18/1 to win the tournament, but if you want to go with a low-risk take, it would be the American to win his quarter.
Rafael Nadal is not among the Top three favorites to win this year, but you can never write off the defending champion. Even with his back against the wall, Nadal delivered one of the most remarkable comebacks in Grand Slam history when he defeated Medvedev last year in five sets.
The Spaniard will be a player to watch this fortnight, although he has a tough opener against British rising star Jack Draper.
To Win His Quarter: Taylor Fritz: 12/5 (bet365)
Men’s Singles: Dark Horse
Sebastian Korda’s game is firing on all cylinders. Last year we didn’t get to see the best version of Korda due to a debilitating foot injury. But the tall American started the year in style, holding match point against Novak Djokovic in the Adelaide final, and only losing narrowly in the end.
Korda is in the same quarter as Nadal and Daniil Medvedev, and this could actually be an even playing field for the trio.
Backing Korda at 15/2 to win this quarter is a no-brainer given the kind of confidence he is in and could be a player to watch closely if he makes it to the second week.
To Win His Quarter: Sebastian Korda: 15/2 (bet365)
Women’s Singles: Favorites to Win the 2023 Australian Open
After her dominant 2022 season, Iga Swiatek is the favorite to win the women’s singles title. It is not a surprise by any stretch, Swiatek has seized the mantle since Ashleigh Barty retired from professional tennis.
The Pole is 11/5 to win her fourth Grand Slam in a fortnight’s time and has our backing on that front. She won the most matches on hard courts last year than any other WTA player and reached the seminals on her last visit to the Australian Open.
Caroline Garcia came off age during the second half of last season, vaulting from outside the top 70 to inside the world’s top 10. It was one of the most jaw-dropping resurgences in recent memory.
She ended the season by winning the WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati and secured the WTA Finals in Fort Worth – a success almost equivalent to winning a Grand Slam.
Garcia cannot be counted out in Melbourne especially when you consider there has been at least a first-time Grand Slam winner on the women’s tour almost every season in the last decade.
Women’s Singles Winner Prediction: Iga Swiatek: 11/5 (bet365)
Women’s Singles Winner Dark Horse Prediction: Caroline Garcia: 11/1 (bet365)
Women’s Singles: Players to Watch
One player that should perhaps be at shorter odds is Jessica Pegula. The American World No. 3 is the only woman to defeat Swiatek in 2023, doing so in convincing fashion as the USA blanked Poland 5-0 at the United Cup.
Pegula’s improving record at Grand Slam level is gathering pace. She has reached the quarterfinals in the last two editions of the year’s first Grand Slam. Pegula also made the quarterfinals in three of the four Majors last year. Could this be the year she finally cracks the code?
She is currently 12/1 (with bet365) to win her first Major and should have been the second favorite ahead of Sabalenka.
Another American to single out is Madison Keys. She was an integral part in USA’s United Cup triumph in Sydney, finishing the fortnight without a single loss. Keys also boasts an impressive record at the Australian Open, having reached the semifinals twice in her career.
Women’s Singles: Dark Horses
Every season the WTA Tour continues to throw up unthinkable storylines and unlikely successes. Last year, not many people backed Elena Rybakina to become the first Kazakh to win a Grand Slam when she sensationally won the Wimbledon crown.
A year before that, Emma Raducanu won the US Open as a qualifier – a first in tennis history. In the landscape of women’s tennis, anything is possible.
We have picked two dark horses who could make a massive impression at the 2023 Australian Open.
Outside Swiatek, Russia’s Ludmilla Samsonova had the second-best winning streak in 2022, winning 13 straight matches between August and September. She also tallied 18 wins from 19 matches just a few weeks later, winning three WTA titles in that span.
Samsonova is currently 10/1 to win the fourth quarter that features the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Belinda Bencic, Ons Jabeur, and Beatriz Haddad Maia.
China’s wait for a first Grand Slam winner in nine years could come to an end this season, with the emergence of talented star Qinwen Zheng. Already with a burgeoning CV of a handful of top-20 wins, Zheng was the only player to take a set off Iga Swiatek at last year’s French Open.
The 20-year-old has a tough draw, being pitted in the same quarter as the world No. 1. She is currently 6/1 to make the fourth round.
To win her quarter: Ludmilla Samsonova: 10/1 (bet365)
To reach the fourth round: Qinwen Zheng: 6/1 (bet365)
