Daria Kasatkina v Belinda Bencic Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two and Kasatkina has won three of them. On hardcourt surfaces, it’s 2-2 while there has been just one match played in an outdoor hardcourt competition and it was Bencic who had won that one.

Kasatkina Benefits from Badosa Withdrawal

As mentioned earlier, Kasatkina advanced to the final following Paula Badosa’s decision not to contest in their last four encounter.

This follows Kasatkina’s sterling performance against Petra Kvitova, whom she handed her first defeat of the season, winning 6-3, 7-6 (3).

While that match saw neither player take control of their own serves in the first six games – which had four service breaks – Kasatkina then grabbed the next three games in a row to take the lead.

Kvitova retaliated with an early break in the second but Kasatkina levelled things off and took the match in the second set tie-breaker.

Kasatkina had already defeated Barbora Krejcikova in her previous round making this quite a showing so far in the competition. Can she now build on this and her performances last season which saw her rise from 29th in the world to number eight on the rankings?

Bencic Advances after Kudermetova Opts Not to Turn Up

Again, like Kasatkina, Bencic also benefitted from the withdrawal of her semifinal opponent. It was Veronika Kudermetova who was expected to turn up for their encounter but a last-minute decision not to take part in the match sent Bencic into the final.

This was after Bencic was a favourite coming into the encounter following her 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win over Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinal. Garcia, the world number four and the winner of the WTA Finals had her chances but Bencic managed to make hay when it really mattered.

Bencic had earlier won and lost one match apiece at the United Cup and then carved out victories against former Grand Slam winner Garbine Muguruza and Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya.

She has shown the kind of form that will make it difficult for anyone to punt against her but can she carry it into this match given she will have one eye on the Australian Open?

Kasatkina v Bencic Prediction and Tip

Both players are coming off title wins in 2022 and an early one here in 2023 will work wonders. What needs to be seen is if they give it their all or we see another withdrawal kind of a situation before the final. Either ways, we think this won’t go beyond two sets.
