Rejuvenated Coric Looks for Successful Aussie summer

Borna Coric was on a resurgence in 2022, coming back from a shoulder injury and going to produce the best season of his career. He was the recipient of the ATP Comeback Player of the Year award following his excellent second half of the year.

Coric shockingly won the ATP Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati, entering the tournament with a protected ranking and stunning the likes of Rafael Nadal, Cameron Norrie, and Stefanos Tsitsipas to win the prize. He became the lowest-ranked Masters champion in ATP history

The Croat himself was left in awe at the magnitude of that achievement and a strong showing in Vienna towards the end of the year ensured he would re-enter the world’s Top 30.

It was one of the biggest jumps ranking-wise by Coric who will be seeded for his second Grand Slam in a row since making his return to Tour-level tennis.

Lehecka Making Inroads in 2023

Jiri Lehecka is now the top-ranked Czech male player. Although he will be looking for a big ranking jump this year to complement his attacking brand of tennis that has seen him score some top wins in his short career on the ATP Tour.

Lehecka started his 2023 season by joining his Czech continent at the United Cup. After losing his opening match to Taylor Fritz, he scored a very good win over former Top 10 player Alexander Zverev.

Although his country failed to get out of the group, he gave a good account of himself. Lehecka would then make the short trip to New Zealand to play the Auckland Open.

He came through qualifying and defeated Thiago Monteiro in the first round. But the young Czech came up short in an entertaining three-set battle against Cameron Norrie.

Coric v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

This is one of the most intriguing first-round matches that the draw has offered. Coric should be expected to come out on top, but Lehecka will be far from a  cakewalk opener for the 21st seed.
