Ekaterina Alexandrova v Ysaline Bonaventure Head to Head

Alexandrova leads 1-0, last beating Bonaventure in straight sets in the 2019 WTA Den Bosch.

Alexandrova on Shaky Grounds

Ekaterina Alexandrova, current World No. 20, is not looking that great heading into the Aus Open 2023.

After incurring a three-set loss to Marketa Vondrousova in the first round of Adelaide International 1, she played in Adelaide 2 – only to withdraw in the second round. In the opener, the Russian dismissed Jaime Fourlis 7-5, 6-3 but withdrew from her match against Veronika Kudermetova.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022 – winning the titles in Den Bosch and Seoul by beating the likes of Jelena Ostapenko, Kudermetova, and Aryna Sabalenka.

In addition, Alexandrova was a semifinalist in Madrid Open, Charleston Open, and WTA Ostrava – three big-tier events where she gained valuable experience and ranking points that propelled her into the top 20.

Keeping aside her current form woes, Ekaterina is a player capable of delivering big wins in any tournament.

Bonaventure, Bubbling with Confidence

World No. 92 Ysaline Bonaventure is heading for the Melbourne Slam after a superb start to the season.

In ASB Classic, she reached a rare semifinal – as a qualifier – before losing to Rebeka Masarova in straight sets. That run took her to a career-best ranking – which she followed with an uneventful showing in Hobart. After upsetting Tamara Zidansek in three sets, she fell to Lauren Davis in round two.

This is only the third time that the 28-year-old Bonaventure will feature in the main draw of the Australian Open. In her last two attempts, she fell in the first round, but this time, she may go further.

The Belgian enjoyed a decent 2022, where she reached four ITF finals – three runner-ups and one champion.

Alexandrova v Bonaventure Prediction and Tip

Alexandrova is the favourite on paper but Bonaventure is poised to surprise. Backing the underdog may not be the worst play, considering that even bookies have pegged her at 2/1 instead of something more astounding.
