Musetti’s Injury Hurt Italy at United Cup
Italy lost to the United States in comprehensive fashion at last week’s United Cup final. The damage was already done even before the last singles rubber between Madison Keys and Lucia Bronzetti.
Lorenzo Musetti lost the vital second rubber against Frances Tiafoe, after a shoulder injury derailed his country’s hopes of leveling the tie.
Musetti retired from the match after losing the first set 6-2 to the flamboyant Tiafoe. But prior to that, it was a truly unforgettable couple of weeks for Musetti and his teammates who defied the odds to get to the final.
The 20-year-old played a key role in that run, notching four quality wins over lower-ranked opposition without dropping a set. The closest Musetti was taken was the tiebreak he played against Norway’s Viktor Durasovic. but aside from that, he was almost unplayable.

Harris Could Face Jetlag Issues
Lloyd Harris returned to action in 2023 after spending the last six months nursing a wrist injury. Since losing to Richard Gasquet in the first round of the French Open last summer, Harris shut down his season entirely to focus on recovery.
The South African played for the first time at the Nonthaburi Challenger in Thailand, reaching the semifinal in the first event and then deciding to play the double header in the same city.
Harris exceeded expectations, partly aided by the low level of competition, as he reached the final without dropping a set. At the time of writing the 25-year-old is due to face Arthur Cazaux in the final on Saturday.
And with his opening round match against Musetti expected to be midday on Monday, he will have less than 48 hours of preparation.
Harris enters the 2023 Australian Open with a protected ranking.
Musetti v Harris Prediction and Tip
Musetti’s shoulder is the point of concern coming into this match. If he has fully recovered, he should outmatch Harris in almost every department bar the serve. Add the fact that Harris could be heavy-legged after playing a Challenger final in Thailand less than 48 hours before this match, then it is tough to imagine the Italian having any obstacles.
