Amanda Anisimova v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head
Kostyuk won their only meeting in a qualifying round in Madrid in 2019.

Anisimova Regained Form in 2022
She is just 21 and has already seen a lot of ups and downs in her career. Amanda Anisimova, was just 17 when she made it to the semifinals of the French Open in 2019. But soon she lost her father and coach, which halted her progress. Injuries and poor form further prevented her from reaching the same heights in 2020 and 2021 respectively as a result of which the American slipped in the rankings.
But Anisimova is known as a fighter and the aggressive baseline player made a solid comeback in 2022. She started the year by winning the Melbourne Summer Set-2 title. It was the second title of her career and a first since she won in Bogota in 2019.
With the season starting off brightly she carried the form to the Australian Open and won three in a row before bowing out to Ash Barty in the Round of 16. It was the second time that she had reached that far in the tournament, following her run to the fourth round on debut in 2019.
While she didn’t reach another final in 2022, but featured in the semifinal in Charleston and also made it to the quarterfinals in five other tournaments, including Wimbledon.
Overall she finished 2022 with a 33-14 record—her most successful season in terms of percentage of wins, number of wins and even the number of deep runs at the tour level.
Anisimova also moved up significantly in the rankings. She was 78 at the start of 2022, but finished the season at no. 23. Currently ranked no. 29, she will be hoping to have a good run in Melbourne but hasn’t started the season well and brings a 2-3 record into the tournament. The American lost in the first round in Adeliade and then, playing as a lucky loser, fell in the second round in Adelaide-2.
Can she make a bright start in the first major of the season?

Kostyuk Had a Difficult Time in 2022
Unlike Anisimova, Marta Kostyuk has had a better start to the season. She not only qualified for Adelaide-1 but also won the first two round to reach the last eight of the tournament before falling to Ons Jabeur.
One of the players that Kostyuk beat in Adelaide was Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. The Ukrainian fought back from a set down to complete the win in that second round contest, however, she was halted in the next match by the Tuisian.
Kostyuk’s next assignment was Adelaide-2, but that ended quickly after she was knocked out by Shelby Rogers in the first round.
Ranked no. 57th in the world, the 20-year-old Kostyuk will be playing in her fourth Australian Open. It is the tournament where she made her main draw tour level debut in 2018 and as a 15-year-old, she impressed by reaching the third round of the tournament. In her second appearance in the Melbourne major in 2021, she lost in the opening round, while in 2022, she once again got through the first two round before falling to Paula Badosa.
Can she go past the third round this year? She has an extremely difficult opening round opponent to contend with and if she does get past the first two rounds she could be setting up a potential third round against Jessica Pegula.
Kostyuk is coming off a poor 28-20 season, reaching the quarterfinal stage just once. That was in Granby. She was through to the last four, but pulled out with an injury.
Anisimova v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip
Anisimova has been one of the most consistent performers over the last one year. She has made deep runs consistently and also climbed up the rankings. In addition, she also likes playing in Australia. Kostyuk on the other hand struggled last season. So Anisimova is the favourite in this match and is expected to move into the next round.
