Daria Kasatkina v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and that came in a Melbourne tournament in 2021. Kasatkina had won that second round match in straight sets.

Kasatkina Makes Adelaide 2 Final

After a shock loss in the very first round of the Adelaide International 1, Kasatkina came back well in the second tournament at the same venue the following week. The Russian, who had a first round bye, won a couple of matches and was aided by a withdrawal to make the competition final there.

And while Kasatkina lasted all of 69 minutes in that final against Belinda Bencic, she would take some hope from the manner in which she won her first two rounds thee.

For starters, Kasatkina overcame Barbora Krejcikova in the second round in straight sets. More vitally she sent Petra Kvitova packing in the quarterfinals, again in straight sets, to make it through to the last four where Paula Badosa withdrew from the tournament because of an injury.

Kasatkina will now look to start things off positively here, as she aims to better her Australian Open showing of third round last season.

Gracheva’s Not Won a Main Draw Match in a While

It was in Chennai in September last year that Gracheva last won a main draw match in a WTA 250 competition.

Since then, her form has slipped and so have her chances of getting back to her career-best ranking of 59 – she is 98th at the moment and just about managed to make the main draw without having to play the qualifiers here.

Gracheva did feature in a few of the WTA125 tournaments towards the end of the previous season and did well in them, but that hasn’t helped her too much at the start of this year.

She started off with a second round qualifying defeat at the Auckland Open at the hands of Viktoria Kuzmova before Anna Blinkova sent her packing in Hobart’s opening qualifier.

And Gracheva now faces the in-form Kasatkina for a place in the second round of a tournament she has won only one match before.

Kasatkina v Gracheva Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina might not have done too well in the final at Adelaide but a lot of that can be down to the lack of intensity in the lead-up to a Grand Slam. She should not have a lot of trouble here and win it in straight sets.
