Rybakina Makes Slow Start in Adelaide
Despite winning the Wimbledon title last year, Rybakina did not have the best of finishes to the season in 2022. And by the looks of things, she hasn’t quite started off the new season too well either.
Rybakina opted to play at both the Adelaide events in the first two weeks of the season and came with winning one and losing two matches. She would hope she has at least gotten the hang of conditions and shrugged off any pre-season rustiness.
Things looked to be headed in the right direction when Rybakina started off with a win over Danielle Collins in the first round, coming back from a set down to send the previous Australian Open runner-up out.
Since then, however, the Kazakh has struggled.
She fell to Marta Kortuk in the second round there and was then sent packing by Petra Kvitova in the Adelaide International 2 opener.
Can she turn things around around a player who has shown some excellent early season form?

Cocciaretto Jumps to Career-High Ranking
At the time of writing, Cocciaretto is 67th on the WTA Rankings charts but when that’s updated in the new week, she would have broken into the top 50 for the first time.
And that’s to do with the 21-year-old Italian making it to her first ever WTA final in the week leading up to the Australian Open.
Cocciaretto might have lost to Lauren Davis in that final but that was a fabulous run through to the title-decider. First Alize Cornet was sent packing before Jasmine Paolini won just three games in the second round.
The Italian then overcame two Americans in succession, beating Bernarda Pera and Sofia Kenin in hard-fought three-setters to enter the final.
It was finally a third American who got the better of her but by then Cocciaretto had already climbed up to 48th in the world. She would start things off here with a lot of confidence.
Rybakina v Cocciaretto Prediction and Tip
Rybakina might start off as a 7/20 favourite here but cannot discount Cocciaretto and her form here. If she can recover quickly enough between the final and this match, the Italian could prove to be a handful.
