Anna Bondar v Ana Bogdan Head to Head

While they haven’t played at the highest level before this, there has been a qualifier in Istanbul in 2019 which Bogdan had won on clay.

Bondar Fails to Qualify for Adelaide 1 and 2

Bondar had had a couple of solid results in July last year which helped her break into the top 50 of the rankings for the first time. Since then, however, things have been off the boil for her, and that has reflected in her rankings.

The Hungarian, who has never won a main draw match at the Australian Open, ended the season 42 places behind her best as a result of that.

And that form has continued right into this season as well. She featured in both the tournaments in Adelaide earlier this month but failed to qualify for the main draw at either.

At the first of those tournaments, Bondar lost to Anhelina Paolini in the second qualifier while at the second of those, she lost in the very first qualifying round to Kaia Kanepi.

Can she change things around against the world number 61?

Bogdan Not Too Different This Year

Much like Bondar, the new season hasn’t brought a lot of joy for Bogdan. She started things off in Adelaide International 1 with an opening qualifying defeat at the hands of Kimberly Birrell despite going into the match as a 7/20 favourite.

And while Bogdan defeated Shuai Zhang in the opening qualifier at the Adelaide International 2, she fell in the very next round without making it to the main round. Katerina Siniakova usurped her in three sets.

Bogdan has featured in six previous editions of this tournament, and the only time she won a match here was in 2018. She had reached the third round then.

As compared to her opponent though, that’s already two more wins than her in this tournament. As a result of that and overall better experience at the Australian Open, Bogdan will have a lot more confidence.

Bondar v Bogdan Prediction and Tip

Bondar will hope to put up a fight but Bogdan should come through. Might even not take too much time to do so.
