Podoroska Starts Season off with Two Losses

Two matches played, two lost. That’s what Podoroska’s record is this year and that has also coincided with her ranking falling outside the top 190.

Podoroska had climbed up 36th in the world in 2021 on the back of a French Open semifinal appearance the season before that. Since then, however, Podoroska has been on a bit of a free-fall and that was on display in her performances at the United Cup earlier this year too.

Playing France and Croatia in her two ties for Argentina, Podoroska won just two game against Caroline Garcia and while she pushed Petra Martic to three sets, the Argentine did not win again.

And she now enters this tournament having won just one round here in the past.

Jeanjean Makes it Through as a Lucky Loser

She had lost in the third qualifying round this tournament but the withdrawal of local player Ajla Tomljanovic has allowed Jeanjean to make it through to the main draw.

Jeanjean, who has never played at the Australian Open was on the verge of missing out yet again when she lost to Lesia Tsurenko in the final round of qualifying. Now she gets another chance.

And she is coming off a season to remember – one that saw Jeanjean climb up from 378th in the world to a career-best of 107th. A late bloomer, she was outside the top 1100 as recently as in 2021.

Now that she is here, Jeanjean will know she has a good chance against the clay-courter Podoroska which is also why those odds of 1/1 for her win look tempting.

Podoroska v Jeanjean Prediction and Tip

Podoroska starts off a favourite but we could be looking at an upset here with Jeanjean, at 1/1, being our favourite here. Could also see a three-setter.
