Emma Raducanu v Tamara Korpatsch Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and that came in Stuttgart last season. Raducanu had won that in three sets.

The former US Open winner Raducanu had begun the season with a fighting first round win over talented youngster Linda Fruhvirtova and things looked to be heading her way in the second round too.

She had bagelled Viktoria Kuzmova in the first set of her second round match but then things began to unravel. The Brit lost the second set and had to retire from the third because of a twisted ankle.

In tears, Raducanu looked like she had ruled herself out of the Australian Open.

Which is why, it’s refreshing to see her fit and raring to go in this opener, with the Brit noting:

“I’ve been able to do preparation, albeit more limited than usual. But I’m feeling in a good place to go out there and give it my best shot.”

Can she emulate her 2022 performance for starters where she had made the second round in this competition?

Korpatsch in Strife This Season

When you are ranked out of the top 70, you are forced to play qualifiers at pre-Grand Slam events, especially when you haven’t won a major yourself (like Raducanu has, for example!).

And that’s what has been the case for Korpatsch this year. Unfortunately for her, she has struggled to make it through either of the two qualifying rounds she has been a part of.

In fact, Korpatasch hasn’t won even one match.

At Adelaide, the German lost to Storm Hunter and followed that up with an opening qualifying loss at Hobart to Kristina Kucova. Both of those losses came in three sets.

The other issue for Korpatsch is she is more of a clay-courter and that’s where Raducanu will have a huge advantage over her. Can Korpatsch put up some sort of a fight here?

Raducanu v Korpatsch Prediction and Tip

Raducanu would have won this in two sets on hardcourt surfaces otherwise but here, with her ankle still recovering we will be a touch cautious in saying that. A win for the Brit looks most likely though.
