Kamilla Rakhimova v Kateryna Baindl

Rakhimova leads 1-0, surpassing Baindl in the 2022 WTA Bronx Open 6-2, 2-0 owing to her opponent’s retirement from the match.

Rakhimova, 0-2 in 2023

Kamilla Rakhimova, currently ranked World No. 110, is coming off a disappointing start to the 2023 season.

The 21-year-old competed in Hobart International and Adelaide International 1 but couldn’t win a match. She started in the qualifiers in both events but fell respectively to Lauren Davis and Katerina Siniakova in straight sets.

This marks the first time Rakhimova will play in the main round of the Australian Open. She earned the ticket after a decent 2022 season, winning two ITF titles. Rakhimova gained valuable experience overall as she reached two WTA doubles finals in Istanbul and Cluj-Napoca and won the Open de Rouen doubles with Natela Dzalamidze.

Her experience in top-tier events is still on the low side, but that may change in the coming months.

Baindl, Coming off an Unimpressive Start

Former top 70 player Kateryna Baindl is hoping for a rare win in Grand Slams. In the 19 times she has competed in the main draw of a major, she has made it past the opener just four times.

Her last victory at this stage came in the 2020 US Open where she moved to round two, losing to Petra Kvitova. Since then, the Ukrainian has featured in seven majors – losing in the qualifiers in the last five.

After sitting out three months at the start of 2022, Baindl ended the season at 34-27 with three singles finals – two on the ITF Tour and one on the Challenger.

On the WTA Tour, she bagged just four main draw matches – all in July on the clay courts in Warsaw and Budapest. Kateryna was the semifinalist in the Polish event but lost to Ana Bogdan.

Rakhimova v Baindl Prediction and Tip

Besides Baindl’s superior experience, there is not much separating the two players. This match can swing either way and bookmakers are inclined to believe the same, evident from such close odds between the two players.
