Petra Kvitova v Su-Wei Hsieh Head to Head
Kvitova and Hsieh have met thrice on the WTA Tour and the Czech has won all the three matches. She presently leads by 3-0 and last defeated the Taiwanese player as recently as the WTA Sydney earlier this year.
Hsieh Continues to Impress
Su-Wei Hsieh has played some of the best tennis of her career in Dubai over the course of the week. Since the very first round, she has put up a dominating performance and defeated three, top-seeded players to reach the semifinal.
Her victims have been Anastasija Sevastova, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, German No. 1 Angelique Kerber and most recently, the Czech ace Karolina Pliskova. In fact, Hsieh’s match against the Pliskova was quite impressive as she battled it out for three sets to ultimately win it with 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
She had a similar run in Auckland earlier this year, where she was a semifinalist but ended up losing to Bianca Andreescu. After that, she suffered a series of early defeats before finding her form once again.
Hsieh is a prominent doubles player and has achieved quite a bit on the doubles circuit. As a singles player, however, she has won three titles, the most recent one being the Japan Women’s Open last year.
Kvitova Breezes into the Semis
The Czech had an easy fixture in the quarterfinal against Viktoria Kuzmova, whom she defeated 6-4, 6-0. With that win, she is now a step closer to reaching her third final on the tour this season.
She won the singles title in Sydney earlier this year and followed it with a runner-up feat in the Australian Open, where she lost to Naomi Osaka in the final. Her form took a slight hit in St. Petersburg when she lost to Donna Vekic early in the competition, but it definitely appears that she is back to her former self now.
The No. 2 seed is now seeking her 27th singles title on the tour. The two-time Wimbledon champion had a brilliant spell last year when she won five singles title, including the Madrid Open and the Birmingham Classic.

Kvitova has a dominating lead over Hsieh in the head-to-head tally and has been in a much better form than the Taiwanese player this season.
