Hugo Dellien v Enzo Couacaud Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 29 year old Bolivian, and the Frenchman, who is two years younger.

Dellien’s First Match Since Wimbledon

This is the third time that Dellien has appeared in the main draw of the Australian Open, but he has never been beyond the first round.

In fact, he has never been further than the second round of any Grand Slam, a feat he has achieved twice at Roland Garros and once in New York.

The Bolivian is principally known as a clay court player, and has won 24 titles on that surface on the Challenger tour, with the most recent of those wins coming last March in Chile.

He reached a subsequent final later that same month, also in Chile, but had to settle for the runners-up cheque.

Dellien missed the second half of last season due to injury, so this will be his first competitive match since he was beaten in the first round of Wimbledon by Alex de Minaur.

Couacaud Qualifies at Sixth Attempt

For Couacard it is a case of if at first you do not succeed, try, and try, again.

After five previous unsuccessful attempts to reach the main draw in Melbourne, he has finally made it.

Not that his passage was easy this time. In his first qualifying match with compatriot Hugo Grenier, he had to come from a set down before clinching victory in a third set tie-break.

In his next match against the American Bradley Klahn, he was again taken to three sets before finally prevailing.

Arguably he produced his most convincing performance then against Dominic Stricker of Switzerland, a man ranked 71 places higher than him in the world, beating him in straight sets courtesy of two tie-breaks.

That makes it the third consecutive Grand Slam that the Frenchman has qualified for in a row, after reaching the main draws of both Wimbledon and the US Open last year.

He lost to John Isner and Borna Coric respectively on those occasions, but took both men to five sets first.

Dellien v Couacaud Prediction and Tip

Given that Dellien has had no match preparation, he is bound to be rusty, whereas Couacaud is already battled-hardened after coming through qualifying.

Add to that the surface, which is not one on which the Bolivian normally thrives, it means there should be only one outcome in this match.
