Aleksandar Vukic v Brandon Holt Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 26 year old Australian, and the American, who is two years younger.

Vukic Reaches Main Draw the Hard Way This Year

Last February, Vukic won his first Challenger tour title in more than four years in Bengaluru, and would reach two more finals at the end of the season, finishing runner up in Calgary, and Champagne, USA.

A recipient of a wildcard for the second successive year at the Australian Open, he beast Lloyd Harris of South Africa in four sets for his first Grand Slam win.

He also reached the quarter-finals in Sofia, beating both Fabio Fognini and Fernando Verdasco in the process.

This year he has had to reach the main draw the hard way by coming through qualifying, although he was not unduly troubled by any of his opponents.

Gabriel Dasso of Canada, Thiago Agustin Tirante, and Michael Mmoh of the USA, were all despatched without Vukic dropping a set.

Holt More Tuned on the Lower Circuits

Holt, who is the son of former Grand Slam winner Tracy Austin, has spent almost his entire career on the Futures Tour, where he has won seven titles, five of them coming in a five month spell at the start of last year.

He made his Grand Slam debut as a qualifier at the US Open a few months later, and caused a major upset by knocking out the tenth seed, Taylor Fritz.

That was also Holt’s first victory on the ATP main tour.

This will be his first time in the main draw of Melbourne, and he has got to this stage after coming through qualifying, beginning with an impressive come from behind win over the highly experienced Radu Albot, a man ranked more than 100 places higher than him.

Holt then beat Gastao Elias of Portugal and Marco Trungelliti of Argentina, both comparatively easily, in straight sets.

Vukic v Holt Prediction and Tip

Vukic has the advantage of playing in home conditions, and with the crowd behind him, will be aiming to reach the second round for consecutive years.
