Claire Liu had a really strong year in 2022 improving dramatically to make herself a really respectable player on the WTA Tour.
Her start to this year was pretty decent as well as she played in two events (Adelaide and Hobart). All of her wins came in Adelaide where she advanced through the qualifiers in order to make it to the main draw and added a few wins there as well.
Hobart wasn’t so well for her as she lost immediately to Yulia Putintseva. She’s a very fierce competitor who moves pretty well around the court and sends a lot of balls back. She doesn’t have much power but you won’t win points against her easily.
Her fitness is another strength and it’s actually what I think will win her this match because it’s far superior to that of her opponent.

Bad Start for Brengle
Madison Brengle didn’t start the year well as she lost both matches that she played. Neither of those opponents were highly ranked or some superb players so it makes Brengle look even worse.
There are glaring issues for the American, especially on such a court as the Australian Open because her serve is very weak but her strength is taking on players that are too aggressive. She relies on players hitting themselves out of a match but that only works against some players.
When she needs to take the point herself then problems arise. She’s an excellent player on hard courts as it’s her best surface but she’s never done that well in Australia. She did reach the second round multiple times to keep that in mind.
Her most recent match with Liu was a loss though.
Liu v Brengle Prediction and Tip
Claire Liu won the most recent clash against Brengle and she has a pretty good chance to take this one as well. Brengle will have to try to hit the ball harder than usual and that’s just not her game.
