Linda Fruhvirtova v Jaimee Fourlis Head to Head

The two will meet for the first time.

Fruhvirtova Making Melbourne Debut

Seventeen-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova will be making her Australian Open debut this year. The Czech was very impressive in 2022 and will be looking to keep impressing with her game in 2023.

Fruhvirtova, who made her Grand Slam debut at the U.S. Open last year, is coming off a 34-21 season, including all levels. She won her maiden WTA title by beating Magda Linette in the final of the Chennai Open in September and also won a hard court ITF title in Cancun, Mexico.

The Czech player also stunned Elise Mertens and Victoria Azarenka en route the fourth round in Miami and was a consistent performer throughout 2022 as a result of which she made a massive jump in the rankings.

Fruhvirtova had begun 2022 at no. 279, but broke into the top 100 in September and peaked to a career-high of 74, before slipping down a bit.

Currently ranked no. 82, Fruhvirtova is 0-1 this year, having lost to Emma Raducanu in the first round in Auckland. The Czech had won the first set in that match, but the Briton made a solid comeback to win the match in three. She didn’t play in another WTA tournament but went 1-1 in Kooyong exhibition.

Fourlis Handed a Wild Card

Jaimee Fourlis will return to her home slam after a gap of four years. This is her third appearance in the tournament. She lost in the second round in 2017 and in the opening round in 2018.

She was, however, a mixed doubles finalist last year, pairing with fellow Aussie Jason Kubler. But the duo fell short of the title, finishing runner-up.

Currently ranked no. 160 in the world, the 23-year-old was very good at the ITF level last year, winning three titles from four finals. As a result of those performances she finished 2022 with a 50-28 record from all matches.

But while she did well at the lower level, she struggled on the tour, losing all five of her main draw matches in 2022.

This year, she has lost both of her main draw matches as well, falling to Marta Kostyuk in Adelaide-1 and Ekaterina Alexandrova in Adelaide-2.

She will be backed by the home crowd on Tuesday, and that should help her raise her level, but beating Fruhvirtova may be a tough ask.

Fruhvirtova v Fourlis Prediction and Tip

Fruhvirtova is the favourite in this contest. She has played well at the highest level over the last one year and has shown that she is better equipped to soak in the pressure of a big match. Expect the Czech to sail through.
