McNally Routs Pigossi in Opener
She was always a favourite heading into her first round match against Laura Pigossi but McNally did not have the greatest of starts to the match.
The American, who was expected to play Paula Badosa before the Spaniard’s withdrawal from the tournament because of an injury, lost her serve in the very second game of the match.
She broke right back though and the two held on to their serves till 3-3 in the opening set. All hell broke loose after that with respect to their respective serves as neither player managed to hold on to it over the next five games.
It was in the 12th game that McNally wasted two set-points before taking the set on the third.
The second set was way easier for McNally who was coming off a first round exit at Auckland Open as she completed the win 7-5, 6-1 in an hour and 36 minutes.
Can she now now emulate her best ever Grand Slam performance by overcome Baindl in round two?

Baindl Finally Wins a Match at Australian Open
This is Baindl’s seventh visit to the Australian Open and for the first time she has won a main draw match.
The Ukrainian player, who did not win a single main draw match in a hardcourt tournament at the highest level last season, looked to have started off on that very negative note this year too.
Baindl lost in the Canberra ITF competition opener and followed that up with a qualifying defeat in Hobart. Which is even more surprising she managed to hold off the Kamilla Rakhimova threat and eke out a 7-5, 6-7 (8), 6-1 win in two hours and 50 minutes.
After missing out on two match-points in the second set, Baindl raced off to a 5-0 lead in the decider with two breaks of serves and finished off the last rites quite quickly.
She will be aiming for something similar against McNally.
McNally v Baindl Prediction and Tip
McNally starts off a favourite here at 1/2 but we could see a longish encounter that goes to the third set given how closely these players are matched.
