Elena Rybakina v Kaja Juvan Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Rybakina Beats Cocciaretto

World No. 25 Elena Rybakina was off to a good start in the Australian Open 2023, beating Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto 7-5, 6-3 in 80 minutes.

It wasn’t the most clinical of the performances we are used to seeing from the Kazakh, but that win served as a confidence booster. Rybakina was not at her best, evident by her 30 unforced errors against the Italian. However, she did carve 24 winners and won 77% of the points on the first serve.

The current Wimbledon champion arrived in Melbourne amid much speculation surrounding her form. She started the new season on a rusty note, losing to Marta Kostyuk early in Adelaide 1 and to Petra Kvitova in the opener in Adelaide 2.

However, Rybakina has a massive repository of big wins to tap into for motivation. Last year was her career-best, ending with 40-21 and the title from SW19. She also reached the final in Adelaide and Portoroz and late rounds in Ostrava 500 and Cincinnati 1000.

Juvan Moves Past Janicijevic

Kaja Juvan also enjoyed a comfortable start on Monday as she beat Selena Janicijevic 7-5, 6-1 in an hour and 20 minutes.

The 104th-ranked Slovenian had an impressive 80% first-service win rate, committing 15 unforced errors. She also produced 16 winners compared to Selena’s 9.

One more win and Juvan will match her career-best performance in the Melbourne Slam from 2021 when she reached round three. Since then, the 22-year-old has made it past the second round twice in seven major appearances.

Juvan began the 2023 season with a qualifying exit in Hobart, losing to Tereza Martincova.

She ended last season with a 29-18, including the runner-up feat from the Strasbourg Open.

Rybakina v Juvan Prediction and Tip

Rybakina is the odds-on favourite here. Given her rich experience and pedigree, playing the Slovenian should be a relatively easy match to navigate. However, she is still a bit shaky, so punters may also want to consider games market favouring ‘over’ conditions.
