Jil Teichmann v Lin Zhu Head to Head

Zhu leads 1-0, last beating Teichmann 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the 2018 Taipei Open.

Teichmann Upsets Dart

Jil Teichmann commenced her bid for the 2023 Aus Open with a well-fought 7-5, 6-1 win over England’s Harriet Dart. The match lasted an hour and 46 minutes and saw the Swiss produce 20 winners and 21 unforced errors. Her service game was also rocky, winning only 26 out of 39 points behind the first serve.

All things considered, she has now matched her last year’s performance in Melbourne by making it this far. Back then, she was beaten by Victoria Azarenka in straight sets, but this time around, she can hope to avoid a similar fate.

Teichmann has always fared better on clay courts; of the 25 wins she picked up last season, 11 came on clay. As for the losses, she was beaten just four times on the surface while on concrete, this number was 17.

That said, she was the finalist in the 2021 Cincinnati Open, so she is capable of surprises.

The World No. 33 competed in the Adelaide International 2 last week, reaching round two as a qualifier before losing to Danielle Collins.

Zhu Dismisses Marino

Lin Zhu defeated Canada’s Rebecca Marino 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour. It was among her most clinical performances, winning 85% of the points on the first serve and making just 12 unforced errors.

The 28-year-old is a skilled opponent, as evident in her recent quarterfinal run in Auckland. She reached the quarterfinal, beating Madison Brengle and Venus Williams en route. However, she next played in Hobart where she fell to Sofia Kenin in the opener.

That said, Lin is not a player to be underestimated. She closed last season at 41-26 with three ITF titles and a WTA doubles trophy from Zapopan. She reached the top 60 in the singles ranking before finishing the season in the late 80s.

Teichmann v Zhu Prediction and Tip

Teichmann is the odds-on favourite, but Zhu is poised to make things difficult. The Chinese player has some momentum and is well-experienced, albeit her exposure to top-tier events may not match Jil’s. At the very least, this match should see a fair number of games.
