Andrey Rublev v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 ATP Dubai. Rublev won that in straight sets to reach the third round.

Rublev Snuffs Out the Thiem Challenge

It did not take Rublev long to break his surprising losing streak as the Russian came through in straight sets against Dominic Thiem in his Australian Open opener.

Rublev, who had lost his first round matches at both, the Adelaide International 1 and 2, came back strongly against the former US Open winner to register a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 win.

Such was the strength of the Rublev serve, he faced only two break-points in the entire encounter and saved both of them with ease. Rublev also won 81% of his first serve points as he delivered 33 winners in the encounter.

What Rublev will need to do is work on the errors he is making in the matches – there were 34 of them in this one – if he wants to challenge the latter stages of this tournament.

Ruusuvuori Finally Manages a Win

Twice this season Ruusuvuori has gone into a tournament hoping to get himself his first win of the year and both times he has been sent packing in his opener.

It happened in Pune where Ruusuvuori lost to Benjamin Bonzi and then again at the Adelaide International 2 where Mikael Ymer got the better of him.

Which is why, despite entering his opener against Max Purcell as a favourite, there were no guarantees of his form, and especially more when he lost the first set.

In the end, Ruusuvuori did manage to make it through to the second round here at Melbourne Park for only the second time in his career, but ended up needing three hours and 36 minutes to do so.

Ruusuvuori won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (11) to come through, having also saved six set-points in the fourth set.

Given the kind of form that Ruusuvuori is in and the manner in which his second round opponent came through in his opener, it’s tough to see how the world number 46 can find a way past him.

Rublev v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip
