Casper Ruud v Jenson Brooksby Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came on the clay court surfaces of Rome in 2022 where Ruud had won in straight sets.

Ruud Needs Four Sets against Machac

As far as form goes, Ruud hasn’t started off too well this season and that same lack of consistency was on show in his opener against Tomas Machac.

The world number three had started the year off with a United Cup win over Thiago Monteiro but then lost to Matteo Berrettini in the same tournament. This was followed by a first round loss at the Auckland Open, which was made more surprising by the fact it came at the hands of Laslo Djere.

Which is why some of his struggles against his 110th-ranked opponent weren’t that much of a shock.

In the end Ruud came through in three hours and 19 minutes, winning 6-3, 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-3 to proceed to round two but there will be question-marks around his play, and coming up against a player who has shown some form, it could be a problem for the world number three.

Brooksby Continues Good Form

Making his debut at the Australian Open, Brooksby kick-started his campaign with a four-set win over local lad Christopher O’Connell. In a match lasting two hours and 27 minutes, Brooksby won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the second round.

Brooksby, who had kick-started the season in Auckland last week and reached the semifinal, found a way past the loss of the first set, before sealing the deal without losing his serve again.

While he outscored his opponents on the winners count 41 to 34, it was his unforced errors which stood out – he made just 20 of them in the entire match. That, when compared with his opponent’s 42 made the difference between the two.

What Brooksby has proven so far this season is he is slowly finding his feet at the highest level and in his path now is a slightly lesser confident than usual world number three. Could turn out to be a ripper of a contest.

Ruud v Brooksby Prediction and Tip

While Ruud is 7/20 favourite to win this, we think it might not be as straightforward as that and this could be ripe for an upset win.
