Holger Rune v Maxime Cressy Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and both have come at a lower level – one in the qualifiers of the Monte Carlo Masters last season and another at the Challenger level. Rune’s not lost a set yet.

Rune Shrugs off Adelaide Loss in Style

Rune made a deadly run on the circuit towards the end of the previous season. The Danish number one had begun 2022 ranked outside the top 100 and finished the year on the verge of qualification for the ATP Finals.

Which is why a lot was expected out of him when he took to court for his season-opener at Auckland last week. It did not go to plan though as Rune lost to Yoshihito Nishioka in that first round match.

He looked to have shrugged off that possible rustiness here as the world number 10 ran off to a straight-set win in his first round encounter here against Filip Krajinovic.

In what turned out to be one of the easiest opening win for a seeded player on Tuesday, Rune demolished Krajinovic 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in a shade over two hours. Rune lost his serve once apiece in the first and third set but that did not stop him from inflicting a whopping seven breaks of serves on his opponent, with 39 winners and 11 aces becoming a part of his win.

Rune sure looks like a dangerous proposition now coming into the second round.

Cressy Lives up to Favourite Tag in Opener

While Cressy had crashed out of the opener at the Adelaide International, he knew he needed to play to his fullest potential and he wouldn’t have had a lot of issues against Albert Ramos Vinolas in the first round here.

Cressy had started off a 2/5 favourite against his Spanish opponent and while he did have a slow start, he managed to carve out a four-set win over Ramos-Vinolas.

In a match lasting three hours and 25 minutes, Cressy clinched a place in the second round with a 7-6 (2), 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory, using his serve to great effect in the process.

There were 34 aces and 84% of the first serves won by Cressy, while the American also bombarded his opponent with 66 winners to go with it.

Interestingly, there were a total of three break-points in the entire contest, with Cressy getting two of them while losing his serve once – in the third set.

Coming up against Rune, Cressy will hope to continue blasting his serves in but at the same time, will hope he can bring his error count down from the 50 he managed in the opener.

Rune v Cressy Prediction and Tip

Rune is a whopping 1/6 to win this but we do think it might not be that straightforward with Cressy expected to win one set thanks to his serving prowess.
