Another Convincing Win for Sinner

He was clinical in the first round and even better in the second. Jannik Sinner seems to be enjoying his time in Melbourne as he picked a second straight straight sets win on Wednesday to continue his march forward in the tournament.

The Italian, who was a quarterfinalist in the tournament last year, knocked out Tomás Martín Etcheverry 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in just an hour and 46 minutes to move into the third round of the tournament.

Sinner had begun his campaign with a 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kyle Edmund in the first round.

Dominant in both the matches, Sinner was broken once by the Briton in the first round but he did not face a single break point in the second round match against the World no. 79.

The 15th seed won 88% points on the back of his first serve. He broke Etcheverry once in the first set and twice each in the other two sets to register another comfortable win.

The 21-year-old World no. 16 is a six-time winner on the tour, but is yet to go past the last eight at a Grand Slam. Having got off to a flying start. he will be aiming to keep the momentum going in the rest of the tournament.

Fucsovics Marches On

Marton Fucsovics continued his march forward in Melbourne as he overcame South Africa’s Lloyd Harris in four sets on Wednesday.

The World no. 78, who began the season by winning the Canberra Challenger, has looked good in the first two rounds. He came back twice from a set down to win a five-set opener against Federico Coria and then held off Harris on Wednesday.

The Hungarian saved 8 of 9 break points that he faced against Harris and converted 4 of 11 to dispatch the world no. 186, 6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in a three-hour-plus contest.

Against Coria he had saved 13 of 20 break points and converted 7 of 18 to win in four hours and 15 minutes.

He will be a bit exhausted after having spent over seven hours in the first two rounds, but the incentive of reaching the last 16 in Melbourne for the third time in six years will keep him fired up in the next round.

Can the Hungarian keep the winning run going?

Sinner v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Sinner may have won just one of their three meetings, he will still be the favourite. He is the fresher of the two, having breezed past his first two opponents and is looking dangerous in the tournament. Expect the Italian to win, but Fucsovics may take a set of him.
