Ons Jabeur v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

Jabeur leads 3-1, beating her thrice in their last three meetings. They most recently met in the 2022 WTA Stuttgart, where the Tunisians won in three sets.

Jabeur Survives Zidansek Scare

Ons Jabeur, seeded number 2 in this year’s Aus Open, found herself in a demanding match against Tamara Zidansek in the opener.

The match lasted for two hours and 20 minutes, ending in a 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-1 win for the heavy favourite. Jabeur was undoubtedly rusty in the match, committing 49 unforced errors and winning just 63% of the points behind the first serve.

But with a day to rest, she can now look at tackling Vondrousova with a renewed vigour.

The World No. 2 came to Melbourne on the heels of a semifinal run in Adelaide 1, where she fell to the Czech teenager Linda Noskova in three sets. Nonetheless, she is among the players to beat in this year’s Slam.

Jabeur had a remarkable season in 2022, ending the year at 47-17 and titles from Madrid Open and German Open. She was the runner-up in the last two Grand Slams, the Charleston Open and Italian Open.

Vondrousova Beats Riske-Amritraj

Marketa Vondrousova defeated Alison Riske-Amritraj 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in the opening match. The fixture was slated for Tuesday, but intense heat deferred a few fixtures to the next day.

The match wasn’t that physically demanding, lasting only two hours. Vondrousova will be pleased with how she fared, committing only 18 unforced errors compared to Alison’s 45. However, there is room for improvement as she had a low first-service win rate.

Vondrousova has also fallen in the rankings from a career-high of #14 to the current position of #86. Much of this is due to her surgery that kept her out of action for almost six months. However, she was 21-7 with an ITF title from Shrewsbury in November and a semifinal showing in Dubai 1000.

Jabeur v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is the odds-on favourite, but Vondrousova may put her to the test. Marketa is no stranger to going head-to-head with the elites and can very well cause an upset. In fact, at 1/1, Vondrousva even makes for a good bet – and punters may want to note that.
