Auger-Aliassime Fights Back to Stay Alive
World no. 7 Felix Auger-Aliassime fought back from two sets down to score an incredible second round win over Alex Molcan and keep his hopes alive at the Australian Open.
The sixth seed, who was a quarterfinalist last year, was broken twice in the first set and once in the second as the Slovak player built a two-sets-to-love lead. With his back against the wall, the Canadian began turning things around in the third. He got the solitary break in the third and then broke Molcan twice in the fourth to force the decider.
The Canadian was on top of his game in the final set and broke Molcan two more times to win the three-hour-and-five-minute contest 3-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
It was the second time in two rounds when Auger-Aliassime had to rally past an opponent. In the opening round he was outplayed by Vasek Pospisil in the first set, but he clawed his way back into the contest for a 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory. That match had gone over four hours.
The two gutsy wins mean Auger-Aliassime is 2-1 in 2023. He had played in Adelaide, but had lost the opener. He is coming off a terrific 60-27 season, which saw him win the first four titles of his career. He is looking to build on his 2022 accomplishments this year and looks on course to make a deep run in Melbourne.

Cerundolo Rallies Past Moutet
Francisco Cerundolo came back from a set down to oust Corentin Moutet on Wednesday to advance to the third round on his Australian Open debut.
Cerundolo, who had never won a main draw match at a Grand Slam before, had beaten Guido Pella 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round.
In the Round of 64, Moutet saved five of five break points and converted one of two in the first set to take the lead. He also went up a break in the second, but the Argentine bounced back with two breaks to draw level.
The world no. 29 then went on to dominate the third to take a 2-1 lead. With the match slipping away, Moutet raised his level in the fourth, going toe-to-toe with the Argentine. Both broke each other twice each over the first six games, before Cerundolo closed out the match with a third break in the set.
The 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 victory for the Argentine came in three hours and 12 minutes. It also improved the 24-year-old to 2-2 in 2023. He had come into the tournament having lost both his matches at the United Cup.
Auger-Aliassime v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip
Auger-Aliassime has had to fight back to win but he is the more experienced of the two and has a far better record on hard courts than Cerundolo. Expect the Canadian to reach the last 16.
