Novak Djokovic v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head
Novak Djokovic leads Grigor Dimitrov 9-1 in their head-to-head. Djokovic has won their last seven matches in a row, with their last bout coming at the 2019 Paris Masters.

Djokovic Beats Couacaud in Four
It wasn’t smooth sailing for Novak Djokovic, but he got into the harbor at the end after halting Enzo Couacaud’s deepest run at a Grand Slam with a four-set win.
It took the best part of three hours, probably the most that Djokovic has had to endure against a qualifier on Rod Laver Arena, but he recovered from dropping the second set to win 6-1 6-7 6-2 6-0.
Towards the end of the second set, Djokovic called for a trainer and took an off-court medical timeout for his persistent hamstring injury. Although he appeared on the court with a lot more strapping, he couldn’t prevent Couacaud from leveling the match as the French qualifier outmaneuvered a vulnerable Djokovic.
However, the Serbian star was even more dangerous with his back against the wall. Djokovic pulverized the ball with power and injected more pace in his ground strokes in order to draw errors and shorten points.
That worked, as Couacaud was blown away in the next couple of sets. The Frenchman, it has to be noted, also carried an apparent injury after rolling his ankle in the first set.

Dimitrov Imperious In Knocking Out Djere
With Djokovic coming off a rollercoaster evening on Thursday, for Grigor Dimitrov, it was a good day at the office as the Bulgarian worked seamlessly to thump Laslo Djere 6-3 6-2 6-0 in an hour and 34 minutes. It follows his stoic first-round win over Aslan Karatsev and is yet to drop a set en route to the third round.
Dimitrov registered nine aces in the match to Djere’s four, hit fewer double faults (2 to 7), and won 86% first-serve points, which translated to 32 out of 37 points won, whilst clocking his fastest serve at 134 mph.
Djere could not keep up with Dimitrov’s pace and precision from the baseline. The Serbian’s usually reliable game fell into pieces as he generated 44 unforced errors from his wand, and managed just 12 winners.
Dimitrov will now be looking to knock off another Serbian in his quest to reach the second week at the Australian Open for the seventh time in his career.
Djokovic v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip
Djokovic says he won’t be getting too far ahead of himself and will only deal with his persistent hamstring injury on a day-by-day basis. But you wonder for how long?
He’s won this tournament before by playing through the pain barrier, but the hamstring injury greatly affects his movement – which is one of his greatest strengths.
Fitness permitting, we think Djokovic will win here. But if doubts continue to linger on that hamstring, Dimitrov could take advantage.
